Meet Betsy. Betsy was the one who inspired it all. Let me explain…

Let’s start with describing what my sense of style is.

My sense of style is… Ummmm… Well actually, I have no idea.

I like a lot of different styles. I can walk into any house and find something I like. I love farmhouses, I love eclectic, I love bohemian, I love rustic, I love industrial, I love modern, I love mid century modern… the list goes on and on!

So basically what happened was I walked into Kirklands one day, and I saw Betsy, and I literally GASPED. I immediately fell in love with her bold colors and her free spirit. I knew I had to have her. In fact, I bought her before our house was even done being built. She is the one piece that literally spoke to me. She said “Buy me! Buy me!” And I said, “okie dokie!”

So Betsy became my very first statement piece for our home.

And she is quite a LARGE statement piece! And I’m here to tell you that buying a large statement piece for your home is the way to go!

1. A large statement piece for your home means less stuff!

Less stuff means LESS CLUTTER!

Less stuff means LESS TO DUST!

YIPPE! That’s a reason to celebrate!

When we built our new home, one of the main goals I had was to own less house stuff. In our old house, I’m pretty sure I had a picture frame hung up on every.single.wall.

My goal was to have less stuff hung up on the walls. Less stuff to dust. And less stuff on the floor.

Finding Betsy was enlightening because she was a statement piece that was big and she hung on the wall so she kept the floor clutter-free!

Plus, she inspired me to find FEWER pieces… but those fewer pieces had to be special!

For some people, home decor comes naturally to them.

That is not me.

For me, it’s a lot of doubting myself and not knowing what the heck I’m doing. If I walk into a home store, I often get overwhelmed because while I can find a lot of little things that I love, I can’t always figure out how to turn all those little things into a “big picture” kind of design.

When I found Betsy, it helped fine-tune my focus, and it made decorating the rest of our house easier. Everything I bought, I began asking…

I loved how she was made up of lots of fun colors. This helped enable me to match other items in the house to whatever colors were in this painting.

Betsy became the focal point of our main living area and so… my style began to evolve.

3. A large statement piece for your home will be a conversation starter!

It’s kind of hard not to notice Betsy in our home. She’s big! She kind of demands everyone’s attention.

But what’s great is that it’s so fun to talk about her! Our entire family, including my daughters, talk about Betsy as if she’s real and a part of our family.

I think it’s a great family tradition that our girls will remember when they’re older. Growing up with good ‘ol Betsy!

Betsy has been in our home for almost three years now. And I still love her with every ounce in me.

She gets to listen to our family dinner conversations. She watches baking tutorial shows with us. She gets to feel the sun on her face from our back windows. She has become family.

And more than that, she’s been my little guiding star helping me keep my sanity while I’ve been able to assemble the rest of our house.
