A Personal Review of the Smile Brilliant
Home Teeth Whitening System!

Describing My Teeth:

So first, I figured I’d give you a little history about my teeth!

Overall, I think my teeth are pretty healthy! I haven’t had any major oral work done, and I always brush my teeth twice a day. (I literally cannot go to sleep until after I’ve brushed my teeth!)

I don’t have any excessive stains. I know there are a lot of foods and drinks out there that are known for staining teeth, however, I don’t use a lot of these products. I am tobacco-free, coffee-free, and tea-free! I do however drink red wine and occasionally partake in some Dr. Pepper.

My teeth are pretty average in the whiteness department. They could definitely be brighter. I’ve always desired a whiter smile, but have never been too interested in spending hundreds of dollars at the dentist on professional whitening!

Teeth Whitening Products I’ve Tried In The Past:

The only teeth whitening product I’ve ever tried is Crest Whitestrips when I was a teenager… which was over 10 years ago… so yeah, it’s been a while!

My Main Concern Before Beginning:

1. I sometimes experience teeth sensitivity so I was a little skeptical about a home teeth whitening system since I remember that awful feeling I would get after using Crest Whitestrips. (That feeling that came from deep inside my teeth that would make me cringe and want to bite down on a big fluffy bath towel.) But when I read up on the kit, it mentioned it comes with gel for sensitive teeth that let me rest assured.

2. Legit-ness. I have a fear of trying new products and then them causing long term damage. I wanted to make sure Smile Brilliant was a brand I could trust before jumping into their home whitening kit. So I checked out their website. I did research. I read reviews. I asked my dentist.

And after all was said and done, I came to the conclusion that I was a perfect candidate to try this home teeth whitening system out!

Bring on the whiter teeth!

BEGINNING STEPS:

When I first opened my Smile Brilliant box, I felt a little overwhelmed. To be completely honest, it seemed like there were a TON of steps!! However, it comes with very detailed step-by-step instructions with photographs for everything and for every single phase of the teeth whitening process. So I made sure to read through everything two times to make sure I knew what I was doing every step of the way!

Before you can begin whitening your teeth, you need to make teeth molds. Again, there are very detailed step-by-step instructions for this phase of the process. They even give extra materials just in case you mess up the first time!

One part that made me a little nervous was that a lot of the things are time-sensitive. For example, once you start mixing the putty, it will start hardening so you have to make sure that you don’t mix it too long and that you get it molded into your teeth before it hardens completely. But I had my phone timer right next to me and followed the times exactly so it turned out easy breezy.

It’s a little awkward and comfortable when you’re making them. And there was one point where I thought the bottom one wasn’t going to come out of my mouth – ha! – and there was some slight panic on my end, but I just tried again a little harder and it popped right out.

So when your molds are complete, you fill out the included consent form and mail them back in the self-addressed stamped envelope. Then you just wait for the company to send your finished personalized teeth trays so you can start the actual whitening phase!

First Application: Describing My Experience:

When I first received my completed custom trays, they fit like a glove! The only issue I had was that the front top of the tray rubbed against my gums a little too much so I did cut out a little triangle so they’d be a little more comfortable.

I followed the instructions. I made sure they were washed and dry, only brushed my teeth with water as instructed, put a thin layer of the gel towards the fronts of the trays, and then put them on! The step-by-step instructions made it super easy.

And then I waited. And I waited. And I waited. And I waited and waited and waited. And then I looked at the clock… and it’d been only 4 minutes. 41 more minutes to go! 🤣🤣

COMPLETING THE REQUIRED SESSIONS:

The company recommends 7-12 total whitening sessions, and I ended up completing all 12 sessions before writing this review. Overall, I did them every other day. I did try a couple two days in a row but noticed that the sensitivity bumped up a little bit if I didn’t leave a day in between.

Every session was at least 45 minutes and I always followed my whitening session with a 15-minute sensitivity gel session.

There were a few sessions that I upped my session time to an hour and I upped the sensitivity gel to 20 minutes.

It’s time to talk about the PROS and CONS!

PROS:

1. Literally everything is step-by-step. It might feel overwhelming at first if you’re new to something like this, but you just need to slow down and take it one step at a time and you’ll find that the process is easy.
2. I could do it in the comfort of my own home AND in my pajamas! I didn’t have to take any time off work in order to schedule appointments at the dentist’s office.
3. It’s custom trays! Like… they seriously fit like a glove and are definitely a step up from my Crest Whitestrips days!
4. The price! Most dentists would charge hundreds of dollars for teeth whitening. So in terms of affordable, this whitening system is a great option!
5. My teeth look whiter and I’m more confident. I want to smile more! I want to smile all day! Here’s to hoping that people don’t get annoyed at all the smiling I’m going to be doing with my whiter teeth!

CONS:

1. The entire process is quite time-consuming. First, you have to create the teeth molds, send them off, and wait for the trays to arrive. Then the actual whitening process is 45 minutes (at least). Plus, if you have sensitive teeth like me, you have to add on another 15 minutes (at least) for the sensitive teeth gel. That’s ONE HOUR a night! It’s not always easy to find an entire hour to just chill out in your teeth trays. I made sure to keep the end game in sight (whiter teeth! whiter teeth!) and it made the time more bearable.
2. The entire process is a bit uncomfortable. Making the teeth molds was definitely a little awkward and uncomfortable, especially since I’d never done something like this before. Plus, it’s hard to talk while wearing the teeth trays.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS:

For me, before I could put together my final thoughts, it all came down to the results. And I love my results!!!

I know it’s not always easy to see perfect side by side results in photos, but I absolutely know that my teeth are whiter.

Are they celebrity white status?!? No. But for that, I do believe that you would have to spend hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars to reach that level.

I am completely satisfied with the results that I got from this kit. The pros for me outweigh the cons. And ultimately, I feel more confident having a whiter, brighter smile. I want to smile even more!!!
