Here are some ideas on how to find your inner happy!  

And once you find it, don’t you dare lose your grip on it!

 

1. ACT OF KINDNESS:

Volunteer for a local charity, bring a meal to someone in need, pick up trash in the park, donate items to an animal shelter, find a way to help a co-worker, serve at your church. Find a way to do an act of kindness.

2. ADULTS ONLY:

Sometimes it’s such a treat to have a kids-free evening and to be able to talk about adult stuff.  Get a babysitter and remind yourself that it’s important to keep the balance so you can keep your sanity!

 

3. BE A KID AGAIN:

Do something silly with your kids.  Run through the sprinkler, jump on the trampoline, have a dance party, have a tea party, play dress up, play laser tag.  Whatever you do, don’t forget to take pictures to document the moment!

4. BE GRATEFUL:

Think of all the people, places, and things that are most important to you.  Make a list and keep it somewhere that you can see it often. Focus on being thankful for this list every single day.

5. COMPLIMENT YOURSELF:

So often we beat ourselves up when we look in the mirror.  Today, look in the mirror and find something positive about your body, find something positive about your personality, and find something that you’re good at.  Focus on these things and be grateful for being you.

 

6. CREATE:

Find a way to explore your creative side.  Paint, draw, color, sew, craft, build something, find a DIY project, or start a blog!

 

7. EXERCISE:

Invest in this time for your body.  Walk, jog, bicycle, do floor exercises, yoga, pilates, kickboxing, water aerobics, lift weights, bodybuild – do whatever level of intensity your body can handle and whatever activity that brings you the most joy.  For an added bonus, do it first thing in the morning so it will jump-start your morning, give you instant energy, and make you feel great about yourself all day long.

8. FOOD & DRINK:

Treat yourself to your favorite restaurant, favorite wine, or favorite dessert!  If you do this option sparingly and in moderation, it will make you appreciate it so much more!

 

9. GAME NIGHT:

Bust out the board games, the deck of cards, and some dice!

 

10. GIRLS’ NIGHT:

Bust out the heels and clutches and tell the husbands not to wait up!  Go out for dinner and drinks, go dancing, go to the movies, sign up for a group class, go shopping, go wine tasting, go to the casino, find something FUN to do with your closest friends!  Remind yourself that it’s important for mama to get a night out every once in a while!

11. GO ON A DATE:

Ask your spouse out on a date. Trust me, the cost of the babysitter is 100% worth it. Be intentional about spending time with your spouse.

12. HOBBY:

Find something that you enjoy doing and then go do it! Or for an added twist, try something completely new!

13. JUST SAY NO:

Sometimes what we need to be happy is to do absolutely nothing at all and take a night off!  So the next time a girlfriend asks you to go to a movie, or your boss asks you to volunteer for an event, or your husband asks you if you want to take the kids somewhere.  Say no to them… so that you can say yes to happiness.

 

14. LAUGH:

Find a local comedy club to go to.  If you’re up for going out, find something funny on television or Netflix to watch!  (Some of my favorites are Ellen, Jane, Cougar Town, the Office, Impractical Jokers), search some funny memes to giggle about, or simply hang out with your funniest friend!

15. MEDITATE:

Just be still.  Just be silent. Take some time to slow down and ask for guidance for your day and for your life.  Focus and reflect on how you want to be investing your time.

 

16. MUSIC:

Find some live music at a local restaurant, go to a concert, go dancing with girlfriends, play a musical instrument, download a handful of new songs on iTunes, make a new playlist to get you going and to match the mood you’re in, or blast some of your favorite music and sing it out at the top of your lungs.

17. NATURE:

Find somewhere in nature that makes you happy.  Take a walk, go hiking, go to the lake, take a mini-vacation to the beach, spend time gardening, plant a tree, go camping, go fishing, go to a drive-thru safari.

 

18. PETS:

Play with your pets, take them to the dog park, spend time petting them.  If you don’t have a pet, check out a local pet store!

 

19. QUALITY TIME:

Be intentional about spending quality time with someone who makes you happy.  With someone who brings the best out in you.

 

20. READ:

Books are a way to escape reality and go wherever you want to go.  My personal preference is light-hearted humorous books. They take my mind of any stress that I’ve had throughout the day!  Or find a magazine or an online blog that you haven’t had time to read lately. Catch up on the news.

21. SELF CARE:

Get a good night’s sleep, take a nap, take a bath, go get a facial or a pedicure.  Be selfish and do something just for YOU!

 

22. SELF IMPROVEMENT:

Learn how to do something new today! Take a class, read a blog, listen to a podcast, or watch a Youtube how-to video! You’ll feel proud and accomplished when you’re done.

23. SHOPPING:

Go buy something.  It could be a gift for someone who makes you happy or it could be a little treat for yourself.

 

24. TAKE A BREAK:

Take a personal day off from your job, skip an exercise workout, don’t shower, turn the electronics off, eat out instead of cook dinner, etc.  Whatever you choose, take the day off and enjoy the break!

 

25. TRAVEL:

Take a vacation!  This could be a mini-vacation for the weekend or a week-long adventure that involves airfare.  Just pack your suitcases and go on an adventure!

 

Finding a balance between being a mom, being a wife, and just doing life… I know that the struggle is real.
